Code of conduct

STEM GIRLS Week exists so that girls, young people and women from every background feel welcome in science and technology. This code applies to everyone who takes part in festival events: attendees, hosts, speakers, volunteers and allies, in person and online.

What we expect

  • Treat everyone with respect and kindness.
  • Ask questions, share what you know and celebrate what others learn.
  • Respect each person's boundaries, personal space and choices.
  • Follow the instructions of hosts and venue staff.

What we don't accept

  • Harassment, intimidation or mockery of any kind.
  • Discriminatory comments or actions based on gender, identity, sexual orientation, origin, skin color, disability, religion, age, appearance or level of knowledge.
  • Stereotypes about who can work in science or technology, such as “that's not for girls”.
  • Unwanted physical contact and any sexual content or behavior.
  • Taking or posting photos or videos of other people without their permission.

Caring for girls and teenagers

Many of our events welcome minors. Every event aimed at girls or teenagers must require an accompanying adult or have appropriate care protocols, and attendees accept this code. In addition, the adults who organize or help must:

  • Avoid being alone with a minor out of sight of other adults.
  • Ask a parent or guardian for permission before photographing or recording a minor, and never publish her full name or details that could locate her.
  • Not ask minors for personal data outside the event's official registration, nor contact them through private channels.
  • Tell families how and when participants will be picked up at the end.

If you are a host

  • Appoint a responsible adult who can be identified throughout the event.
  • Choose a safe and, where possible, accessible venue.
  • Share this code with your team and attendees, and act on any incident.

How to report

If you experience or see something that isn't right, tell the host or the person in charge of the event. You can also write to us at hello@stemgirlsweek.com. We will handle every report discreetly. If there is an immediate risk, contact your local emergency services.

Consequences

Anyone who does not respect this code may be asked to leave the event. Events that do not comply may be removed from the agenda, and their organizers may be excluded from future editions.
